Pak Pandir The Musical makes its debut In the 1980s, Pak Pandir was immortalised by brilliant funnyman Hamid Gurkha in RTM’s weekly Jenaka Bangsawan sketches. His long-suffering and hot-headed wife, Mak Andeh, was played to perfection by the irrepressible Norlia Ghani, popular actor Rusdi Ramli’s mother and mentor.
Pak Pandir will make his debut at Dewan Filharmonik Petronas in KLCC, Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, tomorrow and on Thursday.Pak Pandir The Musical is the latest production from the Petronas Performing Arts Group (PPAG). It is produced by Hartini Abdullah, and is written and directed by Zahari Hamzah.Ahmad Muriz Che Rose is its music director and A. Sam Palal the dance director. Rozilah Rahman is the choreographer.Hartini said Pak Pandir The Musical was part of the PPAG’s mission to preserve and promote Malaysia’s traditional arts.“Malaysia has many great traditional folk tales. Besides Pak Pandir, there is also Lebai Malang, Si Luncai, Mat Jenin, Pak Kaduk and Pak Belalang,” she said.
“We decided to showcase Pak Pandir first, because his story is synonymous with our daily lives, and his misadventures are timeless, too.”Zahari said the stories of Pak Pandir were put to writing by Sir Richard Winstedt in the book Cerita Jenaka in 1908.“A total of 45 actors from PPAG form the cast of Pak Pandir, and 90 per cent of them are first-timers. We’ve also got 22 musicians, and the gamelan is one of our major instruments,” he said.Ahmad Muriz said Pak Pandir was made into a film by Cathay Keris Films in the 1950s, but its script differed greatly from the folk tale.“This is the first time Pak Pandir is made into a full-length theatre presentation, and it’s true to the original story,” he said, adding that the PPAG’s last musical was an adaptation of Datuk Usman Awang’s play Uda Dan Dara in 2003.
Hartini said while Pak Pandir is a musical comedy, it is also educational, in that it teaches the audience two important lessons, namely “stupidity does not pay” and “everybody deserves a second chance”.“While the title character Pak Pandir is a village idiot, he is also a kind-hearted man. Thus, behind the fool is a man with redeeming qualities,” she said.Zahari said PPAG composer Yuzaifullah Yusuf wrote the songs, and the dialogue is that of modern Bahasa Malaysia. In the musical, Pak Pandir gets himself into tons of trouble with his angry wife Mak Andeh. For example, he buys a sickle from the village market, thinking it is a buffalo, and hooks a deer instead of a fish while fishing with his neighbour.
The height of his stupidity occurs when he accidentally bathes his newborn child in boiling water, killing it in the process.
Azbali Iswaldi, 26, plays Pak Pandir while choreographer Haslinda Mohd Ali, 24, plays Mak Andeh.Tickets for the 8.30pm musical are priced RM60, RM50, RM30 and RM15. Call 03-2051-7007.

so, ni dah murah, apa lagi.. silalah pergi yer..
kalau bukan kita yang support, siapakah lagi kan? kan ?
derang mulakan dengan bagi semua orang feel kemeriahan kampung. seriusly mood masuk la.. mula2 tu semua audience macam malu2 gak la nak nak join tepuk tangan.. but, bila dah 2 minit gitu habis satu hall dah start join.
memang rasa meriah sangat...
Pak Pandir yang memang terkenal dengan kekurangan penggunaan akal fikirannya kaaann... ha, Mak Andih is the wife. semua watak ambik bahagian la. mana life Pak Pandir before Mak Andih give birth... mana yang along the way orang2 kampung dok tease Mak Andih sebab bersuamikan Pak Pandir.
kesian sebenarnya tengok Mak Andih.
but, ade satu slot pasal apa perasaan Pak Pandir tu himself. on apa dia rasa bila orang persendakan dia. on betapa dia pun rasa ralat bila dia tak membantu Mak Andih langsung. kesian ooo..
habis satu hall senyap sunyi.. tak de bunyi langsung.
and anis & myself was tetiba look at each other and cakap serentak "mak aii.. tersedih la pulakk.."
yes, terasa sangat kesian and sedih pulak. kita ni dari dulu dok gelak2 kan si Pandir. but, kita tak penah tengok apa perasaan Pandir kan?
macam mana masyarakat kampung dulu2 even ade yang kak nam.. ade yang gatal.. but still, bantu membantu antara satu sama lain.
perlu jugak dipuji and dibagi credit dengan the dancers and songs. semua adalah best and senang difahami and di enjoy.
memang tak menyesal la pergi tengok.
pendek kata.. TERRRBBAAAIIKK!!!!
the real PakPandir & Mak Andeh.. :)

all in all i am truly satisfied with this musical. kalau out of 5 stars.. memang ayu bagi 4 star la!
bukan kerana i know the Pandir personally yer.... but because of the whole thing and the musical itself.
seriusly.. by the time masuk minit the 5 the show, i totally forgot about Pandir being a friend. selalu kalau kita tau orang tu kita kenal.. kita mesti agak focus dengan dia je kan. owh no no no... Pak Pandir The Musical divert my attention EVERYWHERE!
sampai ade satu scene tu, one of the villagers menyorok bawah jambatan pun, ayu perasan kan. seriusly.. memang terbaik!
